Acupuncture within Physiotherapy Practice

Acupuncture Training for Physiotherapists

For some years now the ALIED Foundation Acupuncture Course has been M-Level Accredited to the University of Hertfordshire. We had also accredited this course with the AACP and encouraged graduates to join this CSP clinical interest group [CIG]. This was on the understanding that statutory regulation of Acupuncture would require practitioners to belong to one of the stakeholder groups, AACP, BAcC or BMAS.

The government recently announced that separate statutory regulation of the Acupuncture professions would not take place, as the Acupuncture professions effectively self regulate. Membership of the HPC and attendance on an extended practice training course are all that is required for Chartered Physiotherapists to practise Acupuncture as an integral part of their treatment. Membership of any specific stakeholder group, CIG or Professional Network [PN] is not required.

Although the content of the ALIED Foundation Course has not changed, in line with many other tutors we have chosen to discontinue AACP accreditation, as it now limits both the material we can teach and the students who can attend courses. In the coming months it is likely that further developments within Acupuncture training will take place, and these will be detailed on this website and on the ATCHP website.

Please be assured these changes are designed to enhance the quality of ALIED courses and extend the material taught as a direct benefit to students. In so doing we hope to continue to promote and improved the use of Acupuncture by Chartered Physiotherapists as we have over a 20 year period.

Acupuncture in Physiotherapy

The Government's recent decision not to introduce statutory regulation [SR] of Acupuncture has a significant effect on Physiotherapists who wish to use Acupuncture within their clinical practice.

It has also caused tutors at ALIED, along with many other experienced Physiotherapist Acupuncture Tutors, to reappraise our affiliations.

Clinical Support

All students who have attended ALIED training courses may request clinical support from ALIED if they are having problems with a patient or with their clinical use of Acupuncture.

Simply E-Mail your query to ALIED and we will do our best to give you prompt, evidence-based advice on the problem you are experiencing.
