This is a one-day training day to introduce students to the use of Acupuncture when used within a controlled programme of In-Vitro Fertilisation [IVF] to enhance fertility, implantation and retention rates of the embryo.
Students on this course should ideally be advanced Practitioners, should be working in the field of Womens' Health and have experience and knowledge of the physiology of fertility, pregnancy and hormonal dysfunction. A working knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine [TCM] will be an advantage but is not essential.
Physiotherapists are advised that work within this specialised area may require increased professional insurance over and above the CSP insurance and you are advised to discuss this with CSP underwriters Graybrooke Insurance, before participation on the course. All delegates on the course must be prepared actively to participate in needling and sign a Health Screening Form.
This course will introduce students to the physiological and bio-psychosocial aspects of IVF incorporating Acupuncture for assisted conception. It is supported by underlying TCM philosophy whilst incorporating recent evidence and research trials for effective treatment. The course is taught over 6 hours with an accompanying 4 hours for self-directed case study to be submitted within three weeks of the course, providing 10 hours of Advanced training.
Protocols for IVF are complex, involving multiple phases with specific physiological aims. Acupuncture before and during IVF needs careful clinical reasoning in tandem with the biomedical aspects (Strauss et al 2002) that are being manipulated. This course will provide information on the IVF process and the acupuncture treatment guidelines, safety and effectiveness.
This course will provide the following learning objectives:
